The Black to the Future Nature Alliance was created because of a pressing need for better and richer resources for Black people to assist them in taking stronger action on all aspects of a more sustainable environment. We are here to create collaborative spaces with one another and other groups, where we can discover and share environmental truths as they relate to our collective odyssey around the world, and to advocate for greater progress.
The global diaspora of African-descended people has a deep and fundamental heritage with nature and the environment. As such, the rallying point for our engagement in these conversations will be attentive, adaptable, fluid, and unabashedly inclusive to reflect the many stories and environmental realities out there—each one as unique as our fingerprints.
The Black to the Future Nature Alliance will host and pursue better, deeper, and more representative engagement regarding the environment, nature and the unbuilt world. With this venture, we understand that we, ourselves, are nature - there is no separation between us and the so-called natural world. We also understand that the environment is bigger than its species. In the words of Planetwalker John Francis, "The environment is how we treat each other when we meet each other," and certainly at all other times.
We welcome your participation, suggestions, insight and support for this very worthwhile and much needed resource and movement.
